| About ibt TOEFL |
| History of TOEFL iBT |
| Since 1964 the test has been taken by nearly 20 million students and gone through various changes in the way it is administered. The most recent format is the TOEFL iBT. For the first time, the test includes a speaking section where the individual has to use his verbal skills to demonstrate his ability to speak about a topic or respond to questions in English within a given time frame. Another major change is that instead of the usual single essay in the last section of the test, the test taker now has to present two. |
| The TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) is designed to measure the skills and to evaluate the ability of an individual to use and understand Standard American English at a college level. Many American and English-speaking colleges and universities require non-native speakers of English to get a certain score on this test before they are admitted into their actual academic programs. The TOEFL is administered worldwide by Educational Testing Service (ETS). |
| The TOEFL test: |
The TOEFL Internet-based (iBT) test consists of four sections: Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing. All four sections are taken on the same day, and the entire test is about four hours long. What is most unique about the test is that it asks you to combine, or integrate, more than one language skill, just like you do every day. For example, sometimes you read a passage, listen to a short lecture about a topic, and then speak or write a response. And you can take notes throughout the entire test just like you would in a real academic class. |

| TOEFL Equivalency Table |
Do you find all of the different English language test scores confusing? Do you have trouble comparing an IELTS score to a TOEFL score? Well, that's understandable because there are a number of different language tests and they all have different systems.
Even the TOEFL Paper Based Test, TOEFL Computer Based Test (TOEFL CBT), and TOEFL Internet Based Test (TOEFL iBT) all have different scoring schemes.
The table below shows comparisons between various test scores and level systems (like TOEFL and IELTS).
